MANTA recently acquired a 62 foot Leopard sailing catamaran, named S/V DayDream, for use in our marine science cruises. The acquisition of this vessel marks a big step in the future of MANTA, by giving us the ability to move our vessel around the world, making it possible to host students and researchers in remote locations starting in 2025.
S/V DayDream is powered by two 240 hp Yanmar diesel motors for a maximum speed of 12 kts and cruising speed of 10 kts. Our 20 kw Northern Lights generator and 1200 watts of solar provide abundant power for our systems. She has the rare benefit of being equipped with daggerboards, providing both blue water performance and shallow water capabilities. With 6 cabins total, and a spacious salon, cockpit, and flybridge, we can accommodate 10 to 12 students plus crew. Our large swim platform and open cockpit design is ideal for dive prep, and a Bauer Oceanus scuba compressor, 24 scuba tanks, and a full complement of dive gear allows us to operate for extended periods in remote locations. DayDream will serve as an excellent platform for MANTA’s Caribbean operations for years to come.
For a taste of the MANTA lifestyle without the classwork, S/V DayDream is available for private charter. The proceeds from these charters go directly to supporting future education of students. Please visit DAYDREAM Yacht Charters (cyaeb.com) and https://daydreamsail.com/ for more information.
